Low code, high impact?
Are low code websites the future?
Low code websites are hot. Tools like Webflow are gaining ground in the digital world. But what exactly is low code? And when is it a smart strategic choice for your new website?
Effect maker and digital designer Max Peters takes you into a world where design, strategy and technology come together.

What is low code?
Low code means that you build a website visually via a graphical interface, with the ability to add code in specific places. So it is not a template builder (like Wix), but neither is it a classic CMS where everything has to be fully customized (such as WordPress). It's right in between.
Low code is not a shortcut. Like any website, a good low code site requires strategy, structure and attention. The difference lies in how you build and the speed with which you can further develop.
Webflow
Webflow is one of the best-known low code platforms. And for good reason. It enables designers with technical knowledge to build themselves, without being dependent on a developer team. From wireframe to going live. No transfers between design and development, no endless coordination about what is or is not possible.
This means shorter lines, less delay and more control over the end result. For clients, this provides speed and overview. One point of contact, fewer links, and the ability to make adjustments even after delivery. This way, feedback or changes in the market can be responded more quickly.
Stop maintaining a headache file
Webflow arranges hosting and security. You don't have to keep plugins up to date or puzzle with back-end maintenance. For organizations without their own IT team, this is a relief. In addition, you can reuse and modify components across multiple websites. Do you have a contact block on three sites? Then you only have to adjust it once. Smart and efficient.
Still in need of something more complicated? Then we are just ready. Because that is exactly the power of low code: you get control after delivery, we remain your partner.

Design is not a sauce
The biggest opportunities in digital design in the coming years lie in the combination of visual design and animation. The days of static websites are over. A good website is a digital translation of your brand story. Webflow fits in seamlessly with this: it gives designers all the tools to bring experience and functionality together without technical barriers.
It is still often thought that design is something you add after the strategy. But the opposite is true. Design determines what people see, feel, and do on your site. It controls behavior, consciously and unconsciously. With Webflow, you think about interaction from the start. Think of a subtle animation that draws attention. One route that your user follows automatically. A page that moves slightly differently, so that it attracts attention. A playful interaction here, an unexpected scroll animation there: it's the details that make a website stick. Not as a gimmick, but to make the content stronger.
Always opt for low code?
No. Sometimes a project requires full custom development. This is how we developed the new website of Medical risk in WordPress. Because their needs were better suited to an open source environment with more backend options. And that's exactly the crux: it's not about the tool, but about what you need as an organization. Technology follows the strategy, not the other way around.
So low code is not 'the only right tool'. We see Webflow particularly well at:
- Organizations without a large IT team
- Communication teams that want to be able to develop quickly
- Websites that focus on brand experience, interaction and design, such as the interactive annual review what we developed for Youké or our own website.
- Platforms that need to be updated regularly
